ASHA 2015

Flying into Denver one is reminded of the natural beauty of our country as the snow capped Rocky Mountains surround you. The look, sound and feel of the Mile High City lends itself to a warm meeting place for “speechies”. There is great weather, great restaurants, great outdoor activities and everything is easy walking distance around the center of the city. The 16th street Mall works well for visitors especially with a free tram ride along this strip of the city.

We hosted a well attended graduate fair table with special thanks to second year MS SLP students Hannah Rockwood and Larissa Kortis sharing their grad school experiences with interested students.

Congratulations to Drs. Zimmerman, Schlosser and O’Neil on their presentations at ASHA ’15. Well done to Jaclene Forlano and Megan Foran on their poster presentations with Dr. Zimmerman. An auspicious start to your careers!

I was fortunate to hear current trends in Language and Literacy presented by the true pioneers of research in this area, Barbara Ehren, Gerry Wallach and Nickola Nelson. Hugh Catts and Alan Khami added their brilliance and novel perspectives on reading comprehension and evaluation. And Speechtechie (aka Sean Sweeney) remains the most innovative presenter of all time.

One leaves the annual meeting feeling tired but energized and motivated to review one’s current practice and teaching with a fresh perspective.

Here’s to next year in Philly!
